This wedding beautifully embraced the vibrant color of the desert landscape. Moab is the perfect location for an elopement or micro wedding. The beautiful landscape, access to vendors and amenities makes Moab Utah a popular location for destination weddings.

The Venue

River Bride Event Center is a stunning wedding venue in Spanish Fork, Utah. It is a large, open, bright wedding venue surrounded by a beautiful landscape. The venue has multiple options for ceremony areas, beautiful outdoor spaces, and the indoor space is a large open canvas where you can add your personalized touch through decor and flowers.

The Flowers

The flowers were beautiful shades of pink from light to berry pink. The bride wanted mauve and rich pink tones, so to achieve that we selected Barista roses, Pink Expression roses, Jowey Winnie dahlias, Moab. roses, and Miyabi garden roses. To bring in peach elements we used peach ranunculus and Phoenix roses.

The Ceremony

For the ceremony we installed two arch sprays and small aisle arrangements that were later repurposed for the reception.

The Tables

The table arrangements were a mixture of small centerpiece arrangements and bud vases. Pillar candles in hurricanes added to the ambiance, and table runners helped to bring in color.

Some more details we loved from this wedding were the bridal bouquet, the cake by Baking Blonde Co, and the outdoor spaces!

If you are a colorful flower lover you are in the right place! These vibrant Utah wedding flowers spoke right to my heart. I had a wonderful time arranging the pieces for this event and worked with some lovely vendors.

Neutral flowers will always be beautiful and lovely, but colorful flowers really speak to my heart and usually illicit more of a reaction from guests. I believe you should follow your heart, and these arrangements are definitely for the those who are unafraid to shy away from attention. These flowers are definitely for the bold.

This summer event was the perfect opportunity to use stunning in season local flowers. While it is possible to achieve colorful flowers in any season, summer has some lovely unique options that are not available year round, such as zinnias, celosia, and the highly adored dahlia.

The Tablescape

Orange halves, colorful taper candles, beautiful custom menus, and gorgeous florals made this tablescape! Heavily decorated tablescapes are becoming increasingly popular. Taper candles and fresh fruit are poplar items for tables. Lush centerpieces really take it to the next level, but bud vases are a lovely option if you are looking for something more simple.

A Unique Venue

The Chase Mill at Tracy Aviary is the perfect venue for those looking for a versatile venue that offers plenty of outdoor spaces as well as the Mill. If you are a nature lover this venue is perfect. It offers a lot of lush natural greenery, natural arches, large trees, and of course the wildlife.

The bridesmaids

The bridesmaids held increasing popular floral baskets with white flowers to complement the colorful dresses. Floral baskets are a unique alternative to bridesmaids baskets and they have the benefit of being able to hold a water source to keep flowers hydrated on hot summer days.

The bridal bouquet

The bridal bouquet was made in the oblong style, perfect for framing a wedding dressing and allowing each flower to show to it’s full advantage. Many brides opt for alternative shapes to the traditional round. The oblong is my personal favorite!

How much do wedding flowers cost in Utah?

How much do wedding flowers cost in Utah? If you are planning to get married in Utah, here are the average costs of Utah wedding flowers to help you with your planning. We cover many common items such as bouquets, arches, boutonnieres, and centerpieces.

Bridal bouquet

Bridal bouquet in Utah costs between $250 and $450. Most bridal bouquets are around $300, and $450 is on the higher side. The cost of a bridal bouquet depends a lot on what type of flowers you want in your bouquet. Expensive flowers such as peonies, dahlias, and garden roses definitely make bouquet prices more pricey.

Boutonnieres

Boutonnieres cost on average between $17 and $25. If you decide to do boutonnieres for your wedding, I highly recommend ordering one extra for the groom. That way you can replace it halfway through the wedding day. For the rest of the bridal party, I recommend only putting on the boutonnieres right before the ceremony. That way they can look lovely and fresh for your ceremony and pictures.

Bridesmaids bouquets

Bridesmaids bouquets cost anywhere from $60 to $150. The price of these bouquets is dependent on both the size of the bouquets and the types of flowers used in the bouquets.

Corsages

Corsages on average cost about $25 to $45 in Utah. The type of wristlet used in the corsage generally plays a role in the cost of the corsage. Some options on the less expensive side are elastics, slap bracelets, or ribbon. More expensive options include pearl wristlets and metal cuffs.

Bud vases

Bud vases are a popular choice these days for reception tables. They add a delicate and whimsy touch to the reception. Generally they cost about $10 – $15 per vase, but can be more expensive if you are wanting high end flowers.

Centerpieces

Centerpieces vary a lot in price depending on the shape, size, and, of course, the flowers used. Expect to pay anywhere from $75 – $300 per centerpiece.

Floral Arch

Traditional wedding floral arches cost anywhere from $1,500+ in Utah.

Broken Arch

Broken arches, also known as partial arches, floral pillars, or floral columns has been a big hit in recent years. These floral arches range in price in price anywhere from $1800 to $2500. It takes a lot of product to cover these stands and the price reflects that.

Arch pieces

Arch pieces are floral sprays attached to arches. They run anywhere from $350+ per piece. Since arches are so customizable, pricing really depends on the shape and size of your arch piece.

The Venue

The Red Earth Venue is a stunning venue tucked into a beautiful corner of Moab, Utah. The venue is designed to maximize on the amazing views that surround the venue by the glass walls and doors.

This venue perfectly blends with and compliments the Moab landscape.

The venue features multiple ceremony locations, and plenty of opportunities for amazing floral installations.

The Ceremony

The venue features multiple ceremony locations, and plenty of opportunities for amazing floral installations.

The bride chose a ‘broken arch’ for her ceremony back drop. We used Huckleberry branches, spiral eucalyptus, and olive branch for our greenery. For flowers we used Romeo garden roses, white tibet roses, white ranunculus, and white delphinium.

The Bridal Bouquet

The modern style bridal bouquet was made with white blooms offset by spiral eucalyptus. It looked good from all angles.

The Reception

The broken arch was moved indoors for the reception to make a backdrop for the sweetheart table. This added to the romantic setting for the candlelit dinner provided by Caley’s Catering.

Moving your ceremony flowers to your reception is a lovely way to repurpose them.

The Cake

The cute vintage style cake was made by The Sugar House Bakery.

Spring Wedding Flowers

Wedding flowers for your spring wedding.

Spring is an excellent time to get married. Some of the most beautiful and ruffly flowers belong to spring. Among these are the peony, ranunculus, sweet pea, and lilacs. Here are some of our favorite spring flowers.

Peonies

When it comes to spring wedding flowers, peonies reign supreme. Peonies are one of my most requested flower by brides.They start to appear in April and come in many varieties. Most people do not know they are only available certain times of the year, so if you really want peonies in your wedding make sure to check with your florist when they are available.

Ranunculus

Ranunculus are a staple in all of my designs. They are available year round, but in spring when they are in season they are more available and can be sourced locally. Ranunculus are a very popular option for wedding flowers. They are so ruffly and come in so many colors. Ranunculus also hold up very well in in corsages and boutonnieres as well.

Sweet Pea

Sweet pea is another very popular option in for wedding flowers. Their beautiful delicate and ruffly petals add amazing movement to bridal bouquets.

Tulips

Does anything say spring like Tulips? While tulips may not be your first thought for wedding flowers, they can really add something special to your bouquet. Tulips come in so many shapes and colors.

Why do florists charge more for weddings?

Why do florists charge more for weddings? An assumption that is made about wedding florists is that we charge more for wedding flowers than other arrangements. This is a common misconception. We would and have charged the same for any large scale event. We do not charge more for wedding arrangements just because they are for a wedding. There are however aspects of event or wedding flowers that make relatively expensive.

Factors that contribute to the cost of wedding flowers:

1.) Premium Flowers

For starters, wedding flower arrangements often contain premium flowers that most people do not buy in everyday arrangements, such as dahlias, garden roses, and peonies. These stems often run about $5 to $10 per stem wholesale. A large quantity of these flowers definitely adds up.

2.) Freelance Labor

Labor is a large factor when considering the cost of wedding flowers. On average we spend between 20 to 40 hours working on each wedding. Wedding florists usually hire freelancers to help prep arrangements, transport arrangements, and setup and takedown of floral installations on wedding days.

3.) Hard goods and rental items

Florists often source and provide hard goods such as bud vases, compote vessels, arches, and other items that are used in conjunction with flowers to make arrangements. Whether a couple outright purchases these items or rents them from the florist, there is a cost involved in that.

In addition to vessels we also source large amounts of chicken wire, floral foam, or other structural supporting material to create arrangements.

Some more things to consider

Your wedding’s location

Where in the country your wedding takes place will have a large impact on your floral budget. I am a florist in Utah, which is a landlocked state, and that means that for weddings I pay more for freight costs than those closer to major ports may. Something else to consider is the distance your florist will need to travel. We do weddings 30 minutes from where we are based to weddings five hours from where we are based. The travel time and travel expenses your florist incurs will reflect in your floral quote.

Your florists experience

The experience and skills level of your florist will also greatly affect your floral quote. If your florist has a unique style you are drawn to, it is likely they have spent years developing the skill level needed to achieve it. An in demand florist will likely charge more than a florist who is inexperienced because they understand the value they bring to your event.

‘Who is supposed to pay for the brides bouquet?’ When planning a wedding there are many things to budget and account for. When it comes to who pays for what for your wedding it can be hard to figure out how to divide costs between families.

Traditionally, the grooms family pays for the bridal bouquet and wedding flowers. However, these days when it comes to planning and paying for a wedding, most couples decide to forgo tradition and split costs between what feels fair for everyone involved. For some couples the brides family pays for everything, for some the groom’s family. Some couples decide to split things evenly between their families. Some couples pay for the wedding themselves or slip costs with their parents. What you decide to spend on your wedding depends on your unique situation and what works for you and your family.

As a wedding florist I have had brides who have paid for their bouquet themselves, have had both couple’s families split the costs, and I’ve had the groom pay for them.

Having an open conversation with your family and fiancé before you start booking your vendors is a great way to help your wedding planning process go smoothly!

Bridal bouquet shapes

There are so many options when it comes to your bridal bouquet! Here are some of the most common bridal bouquet shapes.

1.) Round bridal bouquet

The round bridal bouquet is a classic many brides opt for. This simple and timeless shape can be made in the classic style with tightly pulled in blooms with minimal greenery, or more boho with looser greens and a variety of flowers.

2.) Oval bridal bouquet

The oval bridal bouquet is a twist on the classic round. It adds a modern touch by lengthening the sides.

3.) Large oblong bridal bouquet

Large oblong bridal bouquets are my absolute favorite. I love how full and over the top they are. I also think that they really let the flowers shine by the way they are placed out.

Wedding Flower Pricing Myths

As a wedding florist I hear the following wedding flower pricing myths all the time! Here I dispel some of the most common wedding flower myths.

Flower Myth 1: Fake flowers are cheaper

That fake flowers are cheaper than real ones is such a large misconception about wedding flowers! Good quality fake flowers are about double the cost per stem of live fresh ones. If you do not think this is true just take a walk around the fake flower section of your local craft store. Stems range from about $4 – $12 each. This is much more expensive than the average $1 – $5 stems that fresh flowers cost. I know this from working with both faux and fresh flowers. The very first bridal bouquet that I made featured faux peony stems, which were $12 each. As a wedding florist I can pick these stems up for about $5 per stem. I have become very familiar with the pricing for both and can affirmatively say that fresh are more cost effective!

Flower Myth 2: Dried flowers are cheaper

Another wedding flower myth is that dried flowers are most definitely not less expensive than fresh ones. When you think about this, it make complete sense. For a flower to be preserved it undergoes special processes that take time and expertise. This has to be accounted for in the pricing of these flowers. If you would like a dried flower wedding, do so because you love the aesthetic of dried flowers, not because you think it will be cheaper.

Flower Myth 3: Costco flowers are cost effective

The next floral myth is defiantly the most prevalent and in a way saddening. So many brides think that ordering flowers from Costco or other grocery chains will be more cost effective than the ones you can get at a floral wholesale. Let me tell, the roses that you purchase at the wholesaler are about 2 to 3 times the size of the Costco ones. Additionally often times the grocery store ones do not blow out and do not reflex well like ones that are purchased from floral wholesalers.

Flower Myth 4: Greenery garlands are cheap

The fourth common myth that I see are people thinking that greenery garlands are the cheapest table option. This is not the case. Those greens add up quickly and are about $14 per foot. While loose greenery is fairly inexpensive, true garlands are not. Bud vases are a much more cost effective option when it comes to table decor if you are trying to save money.

Hopefully this information about wedding flower pricing myths is helpful to you in your wedding planning journey. Truly the best way to save money is to have an honest conversation with your florist about your budget and ask for their recommendations. They will know what is in season, what is most cost effective, and how best to help you!

How much of your wedding budget should go to florist?

How much of your wedding budget should go to florist? This is completely up to you! You can choose to have no flowers at your wedding or to some, or a lot, totally depending on if you and your partner want them or not. For those that do want flowers as part of their wedding I have complied a guide of what percentage of your budget you should plan for depending on what flowers you want.

The Basics

Percentage of budget: 5-10%

If you are interested in having flowers at your wedding, couples who what just the basics (bridal bouquet, boutonniere, bridesmaids bouquets, etc) plan on spending about 5-10% of your total wedding budget.

Most of the brides that I word with that just want personal items (no centerpieces, arches, etc) spend on average $500 to $1500 on flowers depending on how many people are in their bridal party.

Small Wedding Flowers

Percentage of budget: 10-15%

This would cover some reception items such as small centerpieces or a wedding arch as well as personal flowers.

Most couples that book me for this type of event usually spend between $2000 to $3000 on their wedding flowers.

Full Service Wedding

Percentage of budget: 15-20%

For full service weddings with personals, lush centerpieces, arches, chandelier installs, etc, plan on spending about 15-20% of your budget. Most couples that book this type of wedding with me spend between $3000 to $7000 on their wedding flowers.

All Out Full Service Wedding

Percentage of budget: 20-25%

For those that want over the top wedding flowers plan on spending around 20-25% of your overall wedding budget. I would describe this type of event as having multiple large installs, centerpieces, the best flowers, etc.Couples that want this spend anywhere from $7000 to 30,000 on their wedding flowers

The Utah State Capitol building is a stunning choice for bridal pictures. Especially in the spring when the cherry blossom trees are in boom. If you would like pictures with the cherry blossoms make sure to schedule with your photographer while they are in bloom.

You can take pictures both inside the building and on the capitol grounds.

The Bonneville Salt Flats are a unique option for your Utah bridal pictures. If you want a neutral yet interesting background for your pictures this is a great option for you. Be sure to consult with your photographer on whether or not the time of year you are taking your pictures would work with this location.

Greenhouses

Location: Multiple

Greenhouses are such a fun and unique idea as a location for bridals. Make sure to call the greenhouse beforehand to make sure that it is ok to take your bridal pictures there and ask them what time would be convenient to take pictures. You’ll want to ask when their quietest hours are to avoid having a crowd to navigate while you are taking pictures.

Siempre Wedding flowers

We had the opportunity to be a florist at Siempre Utah. Take an inside look at all the details behind this shoot at Siempre summer shoot where we did wedding flowers in Draper, Utah.

The details

Escort table

Siempre has a beautify corner that is the perfect spot for an outdoor photo moment, cake table, or escort table. We decided to use it for our escort table. I loved this unique idea for an escort table that the planner shared with me when she sent me the inspiration for the shoot. It fit right in with the garden style look we were going for.

The Cake

No wedding scene is complete without a wedding cake. This three tier floral encased cake was a collaboration between us and Marcia of Sweet Cravings. Marcia placed the flowers on the cake, while our team created the arrangement or “flower meadow” (also known as “cake meadow”) surrounding the cake. The views at Siempre are like no other. The outdoor secret garden space is the perfect place to have a wedding luncheon. We decided to setup our cake table in a corner of the garden.

Tablescape

The tablescape was my very favorite aspect of the day. We created large table arrangements to line the center of the table. A stunning ground end piece was placed at the end of the table to tie it together.

I love how the end piece looks like it is reaching up to the table, almost like it is growing out of the ground. I feel that this leans into the organic overgrown feel that we were trying to embody in this shoot.

Ceremony arch

Nothing says wedding ceremony like the classic full floral arch. This was the perfect statement piece for our shoot and we love the lush arch we were able to create.

Alpacas

The most fun and unique feature of this shoot by far was our two honored guests: Macaroni and Cheese from Peppergrass Ranch.

The alpacas were the very calm and seemed to enjoy exploring the venue grounds. They were closing monitored by their owners, Megan and Tyler, who made sure they were well taken care of and comfortable during the shoot.
